Our home has been lovingly cared for by the same family since the day it was built. Ginny’s grandparents moved to this newly-built home in what was then the countryside of Colonie in 1965. They raised their family in the home and spent many wonderful years here. For the past six years, we, too, have immensely enjoyed raising our two young boys in the same home where Ginny has such happy childhood memories.  We’ve really enjoyed updating and modernizing the home over the past six years, particularly the sunny and bright kitchen and bathroom, and putting our touch on what has been a great home for us. We love the vaulted ceiling in the living room, dining room, and kitchen, which makes the house feel so bright and open, especially with the big windows in the living room. We also really love the beautiful original hardwood floors throughout the upstairs. The large backyard has also been a huge bonus to us. We’ve built raised garden beds for our sun-filled vegetable gardens, and the woods behind our home give us a great measure of privacy. We have many gorgeous mature perennial flowers throughout our front and back yards that bloom all through the spring and summer, including tulips, almond cherry, irises, azalea, peonies, rhododendron, lily of the valley, day lilies, black eyed susans, and hydrangea. The highlight, of course, is a stunning magnolia tree in the front yard that colorfully blooms pink flowers to mark the beginning of every spring. Another one of the best parts of our home is its location. The Village of Colonie is a great place to live. Our neighborhood is a close knit community where our neighbors all look out for each other. In fact, almost all of the neighbors have purchased their homes from their parents, like we did from Ginny’s family. We even have a town park with a playground and basketball and tennis courts tucked away at the end of our street. The Village has very low taxes, and also provides a number of valuable services to its residents, including free weekly garbage and recycling pickup, leaf pickup, and heavy pickup once a year, among other things. The Town of Colonie is also ranked nationally as the safest town to live in two years in a row and the William K. Sanford library consistently ranks as the best children’s library in the Capital Region. Not only is our neighborhood in Colonie a really wonderful place to come home to, but it is a short commute to Albany and surrounding areas for work and very conveniently located centrally within the Capital Region.
